I like to address some of the common questions/concerns for those new to Ayurveda

Are Ayurvedic Doctors Real?

This is a misleading question and here is why. Real suggests that everyone else who does not fit our “Doctor” definition is fake. All health care practitioners are real; you may not believe in certain aspects of health care such as energy healing but that does not make the energy healer fake. Our beliefs can’t make someone fake or real, rather it’s the results we obtain from working with that practitioner.
Another sticky point is the word “Doctor” which comes from Latin and it means to teach. We associate the word “Doctor” to Medical Doctors only and get hung up on it. I am not a fan to titles and acronyms rather it’s what the practitioner does that matters most. Many of my clients insist on addressing me as Dr. Puri and they know that I am not a Medical Doctor. It’s because they respect my work. Frankly, as an Ayurvedic Practitioner, I teach and offer a lot more to my clients to better their health with proven results than a Medical Doctor can when it comes to chronic conditions, Spiritual evolution and healing.

Does Ayurvedic Medicine work?

Have you ever made changes to your diet and felt different? Have you gone to bed on time and woke up with the sunrise? How do you feel when you do that? Do you meditate? How do you feel after that? Do you eat at regular times? How do you feel after that? Are you constantly plugged in? How do you feel with that? How do you feel when you spend some time in nature? So, as my teacher used to say, “The proof is in the pudding” We can wait for some major scientific study that proves these things work. But my clients provide me with enough proof and they don’t need some Scientific study to prove what they have already experienced. My own and my client’s experiences are proof enough. We have no need for Science to validate what we already know.

Is Ayurvedic Medicine Herbal Medicine?

As explained above, there are a lot of different types of medicines in Ayurveda, herbs is one of them. Here, herbal formulas are meant to support the lifestyle changes you are already making. Herbs are not vitamins or supplements; they are herbal formulations drawn from the time-tested wisdom of Ayurveda and combined synergistically to provide the most potent effect on the body, mind and spirit.
The concern that herbs are laden with lead or mercury is not any different from our concern as to what’s in our beauty products. We must know the source of any products we use. Purchasing Ayurvedic herbs without knowing and trusting the source and then generalizing that all Ayurvedic products are unsafe is misleading and misguiding. Do we know what’s in Western Medicine? Purchasing medicine from internet without the Doctor’s prescription would be as problematic as buying Ayurvedic herbs from non-reputable source. I work with reputable and checked sources for all the Ayurvedic herbs I prescribe to my clients.

Should I work with an Ayurvedic Practitioner or Medical Doctor or both?

In the case of acute illnesses, you should see a Medical Doctor but can also work with an Ayurvedic Practitioner to improve your current state of health by lifestyle, diet, meditations and healing. When I work with clients with acute conditions, I don’t interfere with the medications they are on and am extra cautious as to not to negate the effect of the needed medications with any herbs or lifestyles. I also work with their Medical doctors with their permission if the need arises.
In the case of chronic illnesses, it will serve you to work with an Ayruvedic practitiioner. Here are the Key motivators that make others seek my services:
• Relief from physical pain, discomfort, unease, fatigue
• Drug Free alternatives to healing their illnesses
• Improve sleep and digestion
• Nutrition, and healthy eating
• Relief from Mental pain i.e. anxiety, intense emotions, worry, fear
• Healing Trauma, Addictions, Relationships
• Learn to Meditate
• Spiritual Direction and Evolution
• Create Healthy Habits, Mind-shifts
• Self-Care and Self-Nurturance
• Feel energetic and inspired
• Prevent future illnesses

What is Ayurvedic Consultation?

To diagnose the imbalances by reading the pulse (at the surface, organ layer, tissue layer, energetic layer, deeper layer of the body) examining the tongue, face, way of talking, walking and posture. It also includes your complete medical history including current and past medications, dietary history including any herbs, supplements, or vitamins, sleep and exercise routines, any other factors that may affect your health such as family and work dynamics.  This is a comprehensive consultation that takes into account everything affecting your health.

What is Ayurvedic Counseling?

Broader and deeper work to uncover the root causes of long standing health issues; health in Ayurveda is physical, psychological, spiritual.  For example, where counseling may only focus on mental/emotional challenges, Ayurvedic Counseling understands that one’s lifestyle can affect their mental/emotional health and physical symptoms are not separate from one’s mental/emotional health.

Ayurvedic Counseling incorporates all the areas of one’s life that can affect the health; person’s unique make-up and imbalances, diet and nutrition, lifestyle changes, psychological, energetic and Spiritual.

Your work with me includes both the consultation and counseling. Disease shows up in the physical, its created in the non-physical. The work is to heal where it was created.

Why You Should Consider Ayurveda?

There is no other health model that addresses all aspects of one’s health and life.  The mother of all natural medicine, Ayurveda is time tested and the call of our times where we are falling in despair of ill-health. Currently, we are facing mental health crisis due to the pandemic; without a Spiritual anchor we are lost.  Ayurveda is a deep, broad and sophisticated system that connects you to your Truth. There is no other system or wisdom that understands the human being  like Ayurveda does.

Ayurveda is the mother of all natural medicine and is a complete art and Science of health, healing and longevity.  In Ayurveda, health and life are used synonymously; when health is there, life works beautifully.

If you have been struggling with your physical, mental/emotional health, can’t find the answers from the Western medicine, know there is more to you than just your symptoms and diagnosis, want to heal and live a purposeful life, then look no further.
